New guidelines for National Minimum Wage
From 1 October 2010, a new national minimum wage (NMW) rate comes into force. From this date, there is also a change in the minimum age for eligibility for the standard rate – it drops from 22 to 21.

Are you aware of the impending ‘green taxes’?
An article published this week in The Daily Telegraph warns of new green taxes. They state “From April 2011, firms will need to buy permits for each tonne of carbon dioxide emitted.
“Companies that fail to register their energy use by next month will be hit with fines that could reach £45,000 under the little-known rules.

World Smile Day – Friday 1st October
Harvey Ball graphic artist created the well known smiley face symbol in 1963. Harvey became concerned about the over commercialisation of the symbol and twelve years ago, he designated the first Friday in October as a day to celebrate his work annually: "Do an act of kindness. Help one person smile."
