Gardening project gets green light

‘The first seeds have been sown in a garden project set up and run by people with mental health issues.

Around 10 people will be involved in the “growing ourselves through a plot of land” scheme, which started at Sudbury Resource Centre on Thursday.’

This garden project is run by educational charity Eastfeast, and aims to help build the confidence of those taking part, whilst they learn more about gardening.

There are known benefits of gardening both physically and mentally as the charity Thrive confirms 3 of the main benefits of gardening:

  1. Physical health – exercise and rehabilitation; improves bone density in older people
  2. Mental health – improves positive outlook, sense of routine, purpose & achievement
  3. The natural environment – reduces stress levels and engage with our environment

Did you know?

  • 3 out of 4 people find gardening beneficial to their health
  • 1 in 3 believe in gardening’s on-going health benefits
  • 1 in 5 say that gardening really helped them through a period of mental or physical ill-health
