Blind Date for Plants

For the last few weekends eFIG committee member Ian Drummond has been visiting shopping centres up and down the country.

It’s not his shopping addiction that has kept him on his toes but building the Blind Date set for the Flower Council of Holland’s ‘Me and My Plant’ promotion.  Ian and Indoor Garden Design have built the green wall and provided all the give-away plants.

The idea?  Shoppers visit the stand and sit one side of the green wall a la Cilla’s Blind Date and are asked questions to match them with their perfect plant.

Three plants sit the other side of the green wall awaiting their destiny; which one of them will go home with the contestant?  Will it be Karen the Kalanchoe a vampire lover if ever we saw one; or Connor the plump and juicy Croton......?

All this on the back of a small study the Flower Council carried out finding that plants could be potentially more stimulating than many of our best known ‘celebrities’.  Sat in a room with plants for company subjects stayed for an average of almost 5 minutes.

Watching and listening to celebrities had them out of their seats much quicker.  They stayed an average of

  • 19 seconds to hear TOWIE star Amy Childs
  • 28 seconds listening to Labour leader Ed Miliband
  • Just 59 seconds for TV presenter Christine Bleakley
  • A whole 1 minute 12 seconds for rugby star Gavin Henson
  • And just 1 minute 36 seconds for Natalie Cassidy’s babble

You can see which plant you match up with at www.meandmyplant.co.uk where you can also sign up for a free copy of the ‘Me and My Plant’ book.
